Healing
A human being is more than simply a machine with parts that break down over time. We are so much more than that. We can embrace the science that informs us about the body systems and the technology that allows us to see some of it's hidden parts, helping to diagnose disease. At the same time, we can also acknowledge that the body/mind has an intelligence all its own. A wisdom that does not have a precise location that can be seen on any MRI scanner or other instrument. For me, the myogenic function of the heart is a wonderful example of this higher intelligence. Myogenic means that the stimulation for the heart to contract comes from the heart (cardiac) muscle, rather than from a nerve. Which means that even separated from the physical body, the heart will continue to beat by itself if the correct balance of chemicals are present.
Over the years I have worked with a wide range of clients, in various states of health. Some health challenges can be addressed over a relatively short period of time, by using the right 'tools'. (a few of which are listed below). Other clients come in a terminally ill state, seeking ways to maintain their emotional health, wellbeing and comfort for as long as possible. One client outlived his prognosis of "six months to live" by seven years! However my part in his journey may have been minimal, as we met later on. None the less, it was a joy to be a part of so rich and full a life, even as it's sun was setting. For me and many forward thinking healers (medical doctors included) the term healing does not necessarily mean cure or full recovery from whatever ails. However it usually means that a deep sense of peace has been found. And peace of mind can be a rare and precious gift, even for the physically fit.

Research into the effects of complimentary medicine
A wonderful 'Oxford Journals' study, which looks into the use of complimentary therapies in patients with cancer can be found by clicking on this link http://annonc.oxfordjournals.org/content/16/4/655.full
The healing journey - unique for every individual
There are countless ways we can approach the path to healing. We also sometimes need to remind ourselves that the journey itself is as important as the goal. For example, it can be tempting to put our lives on hold while there seem to be clouds overhead in one area of our lives or another. Of course, sometimes the state of health demands a complete change of routine or rest. When this is the case, there is a great opportunity to channel loving energy and much needed attention to the body and mind, into a new way of living life. Whatever the diagnosis, it seems vitally important to continue finding the joy in life, no matter what. There will doubtless be 'good days' and 'not so good days'. But often, part of the transformation, learning, healing and journey includes the willingness to continue to live and love with optimism, courage, hope and as much positivity as we can muster.
I do not, however subscribe to the idea of denying one's true feelings. Honesty is fundamental in the process of recovery from illnesses such as cancer. The eminent American surgeon and healer, Dr. Bernie Siegel, emphasises this point in his wonderful book 'Love, Medicine and Miracles'. Siegel noted that patients in his support group, who were honest and open about their feelings - be they of despair, guilt or whatever, had a much smoother time in their path of healing than those who pretended to their families that they were feeling fine and completely unafraid.
For many clients, the healing work they choose to do with me will complement the Western medical treatment they are also receiving. Traditional Chinese Medicine can also play an vital part in this healing process.
The gently transformative power of the Australian Bush flower remedies can be used alongside other techniques such as visualisation, spiritual counselling or dream work. Yoga and body work can also be very powerful in moving energy that is 'stuck' within the body. As well as balancing the emotions. Yoga can even facilitate complete recovery from certain disorders when practised with dedication. Massage and Hawaiian Lomi Lomi are yet more 'tools' that can be profoundly transformative. In addition, herbals and homeopathy can be used to complement other medicines or manage the side effects of treatment being received. All these options and many more, can be discussed in detail during your initial consultation. Please go ahead and use the contact form below to get in touch. I'd really love to hear from you.
